Operational Audits

We assess your entire back office infrastructure—finance, human resources, technology, administration, and governance—to identify inefficiencies and opportunities for streamlining your internal systems and processes.

  1. Assessment: We kick off the audit by gathering information and independently assessing your internal systems.

  2. Interviews: We dive deeper into your operations by interviewing leadership and key personnel.

  3. Audit Report: We present an audit report consisting of recommendations for improvement, as well as time- and cost-saving opportunities.

Our goal is to enable nonprofits to be impactful by professionalizing their back-offices. Operational audits have saved our clients over 5,000 hours per year—hours that they have redirected to their core mission.

Brooke Haggerty, Faunalytics

The process was straightforward and didn't require a big lift on our side, and the audit report exceeded my expectations. I'm confident that acting on the recommendations will improve the cost-effectiveness and overall efficiency of our organization.

Is an Operational Audit the Right Fit for Your Nonprofit?

Operational audits can be a powerful tool to professionalize your back office. Consider an operational audit if:

  1. You're established: Having at least one year of operation and five or more staff members provides valuable data and context for the audit.

  2. Efficiency matters: You're committed to identifying and eliminating internal inefficiencies that hinder your progress.

  3. Scaling: If you're in the process of scaling up, audits can be invaluable to ensure that your systems are robust enough to support your growth.

  4. Focus is key: You want to redirect time and resources from internal processes to the heart of your mission—delivering impactful programs.

However, an operational audit may not be ideal if:

  1. You're just starting out: Early-stage organizations are still establishing their foundation and we recommend they focus on the back office setup.

  2. Change is challenging: You're resistant to adapting existing practices, even if inefficiencies are present.

We welcome you to reach out if you're unsure whether an audit is the right fit for you.
